This delightful mushroom is actually a lidded vessel! It was turned with spalted Beech. The spalting really lends itself well to making this vessel truly look like a mushroom!

Fun Fact! - The piece of wood this was turned from was rescued from my mother in laws firewood pile.

Spalting is a natural process of fungal colonization that causes unique colorations and patterns in wood. It's a form of decay, but the resulting visual effects are highly sought after in woodworking and decorative arts.
